Karen received her MBA in Accounting and Finance from Wright State University.  She has been associated with Battelle & Battelle LLP since 1985 and is a Tax Principal with the firm. Karen specializes in services to not-for-profit organizations and has experience in all aspects of taxation. She chairs the firm’s Not-For-Profit Practice Group. 

She is a member of the national board of The Church of the Brethren Benefit Trust, which includes The Brethren Foundation.  Karen also serves on the boards of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and the Samaritan Health Foundation.  She is a 2002 graduate of Leadership Dayton. She is a member of the Dayton Philanthropic Community Group, the Muse Machine Parents' Association, and the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Parents' Association.

Karen is Immediate Past Chair of the Artemis Center - Dayton's Domestic Violence Resource Agency board. She has served as President of the Greater Dayton Planned Giving Council and of the Soroptimist International of Dayton, Ohio Foundation. She is a past chair of The Dayton Art Institute Planned Giving Committee and has served on planned giving committees for several other not-for-profit organizations. 

She has served on the Kettering Medical Center Ribbon of Hope Luncheon Committee, the Junior League of Dayton Community Advisory Board, the United Way Professional Division Campaign Cabinet and various other community organization boards and committees.

Karen is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Ohio Society of CPAs.  She was President of the Dayton Chapter of the Ohio Society of CPAs in 2000-2001.  Karen serves each year on the Ohio Society of CPAs Not-For-Profit Conference Advisory Committee.  She is a member of the Council on Foundations Philanthropic Advisors Network and is listed in the Association of Small Foundations Professional Directory for Foundations. 

Karen is a frequent speaker on not-for-profit topics and she has made numerous presentations for organizations including the Ohio Society of CPAs, the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations, the Greater Dayton Planned Giving Council, the National Committee on Planned Giving, the Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies, and other professional organizations.
