 Karen joined Battelle & Battelle in 2006 after nine years with a regional New England public accounting firm. She obtained her BS from Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College). Karen has performed numerous fraud investigations and prepared reports for use by employers, law enforcement officials, insurance carriers, and the courts. She has provided grand jury and trial testimony. Her clients have included the Inspector General’s Office for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Department of Education, as well as municipalities, businesses, and individuals. Projects included cooperative investigations with IRS and bank officials. Karen has performed many operational studies and internal control evaluations to determine an organization’s compliance with laws and regulations, effectiveness of internal controls, and processing efficiency. Resulting work products have included documentation of existing conditions, reports with recommendations for improvements, and policies and procedures manuals. In addition she has performed compliance audits for various state and federal organizations. Karen has also been an active speaker on the topics of fraud detection and prevention. Groups have included Government Finance Officer Organizations, business owners and college classes. She is a member of both the AICPA and the ACFE (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.) While living in Massachusetts, Karen served as Treasurer of Friends of the Forest, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting responsible use of the local state forest. In addition, she was secretary and member of the executive board for her local neighborhood organization. |
